Community Prayer 

A commitment to praying for Guildford, the community and the needs of the world, is central to the Common Ground Guildford mission community. Some resources for praying for Guildford and prayers of blessing and encouragement are below.

You can find our daily prayer card here (it is sometimes called a daily "office"). The community commitment day service is on the "join in" page.  There is also information in the Spirituality section. 

Pray for Guildford

"seek the welfare of the town"  

PRAY FOR the people, businesses and organisations of Guildford, including:

  • those who visit St Mary's, especially those who have asked for our prayers
  • Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy (Street Angels and volunteer chaplains)s
  • schools
  • offices
  • shops and other commercial businesses
  • public and emergency services
  • charities
  • law courts and police
  • social and eating places
  • those in any kind of need

PRAY for the members of the community, including:

  • our commmitment to PRAY; TOGETHER; GO; and GIVE 
  • discerning our gifts, and the best use of the gifts, as individuals and as a community
  • for creativity and wisdom in developing a programme of activities and events for others 
  • for others to join the community

PRAY for the various town centre churches and organisations most involved with Common Ground Guildford, and for others to join in.

Prayers of blessing and encouragement

Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
May Christ be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
In the mouth of each who speaks to me.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield:

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm on your face. May the rains fall softly upon your fields until we meet again. May God hold you in the hollow of his hand. Old Gaelic blessing.
